We were thrilled to be part of the 8th Annual NYC Math Festival, a vibrant celebration of math, puzzles, and interactive activities for all ages. Although the day started with a bit of rain, it didn’t dampen spirits—families and friends came together at Fosun Plaza, eager to explore engaging exhibits and discover the wonders of mathematics in new and exciting ways.
This year’s festival was particularly special as we celebrated two significant milestones: the 50th anniversary of the Rubik’s Cube and Ernő Rubik’s 80th birthday. To honor this occasion, we at the Tulipán Foundation created an unforgettable experience dedicated to the beloved puzzle and its ingenious Hungarian inventor.
Among the festival’s many activities, we offered families the chance to participate in a variety of Rubik’s Cube-themed games. Speed Cuber Soup Timmy wowed the crowd with his lightning-fast solving demonstrations. Attendees also joined in the creation of a giant Rubik’s Cube mosaic of Ernő Rubik’s face, designed their own unique cube patterns, and made heartfelt birthday cards for Ernő to celebrate this special occasion.
In addition to these interactive activities, attendees tested their skills with the new Rubik’s Cubers toy, tried out the nostalgic Retro Cube, and explored the eco-friendly ReCube, made from recycled materials. We also hosted two raffles, giving participants a chance to win a one-year MoMath membership, Tulipán gear, and Rubik’s games.
This year’s NYC Math Festival reminded us of the powerful intersection between creativity, mathematics, and culture. We were proud to share our love for the Rubik’s Cube and celebrate its deep ties to Hungarian heritage while providing families with a fun and educational day. Here’s to many more years of the Rubik’s Cube inspiring curiosity and creativity around the world!
