Founded in 1992, the Nádudvar Folk Handicrafts Vocational High School is Hungary’s leading institution for traditional craftsmanship education. Located near Hortobágy National Park, the school promotes a holistic approach to cultural preservation, teaching students both practical skills and sustainable, community centered, and environmentally conscious living.
With around one hundred students, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, the school offers specialized training in a variety of traditional Hungarian crafts, including wood, horn, and bone carving, pottery, weaving, leatherwork, metalwork, and feltmaking. Emphasizing hands-on learning, students develop technical and artistic expertise in state-of-the-art workshops under the mentorship of master artisans. Fieldwork and collaborations with esteemed cultural institutions in Hungary and abroad further enrich students’ experiences, allowing them to explore traditional arts from diverse cultures and gain valuable teaching experience.
The curriculum also integrates entrepreneurial skills, preparing students to apply their craft knowledge in contemporary markets and build sustainable careers.
