Join us for an unforgettable evening of artistry and culinary delights with a hands-on Hungarian egg-decorating workshop on Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Chef’s Dinner Table in New York City. Hosted by the Tulipán Foundation, this exclusive event offers guests a unique opportunity to explore the intricate craft of egg decorating while enjoying an evening of exceptional food, wine, and company.
In light of the ongoing egg shortage, we have chosen to use high-quality wooden eggs for this workshop, providing guests with a lasting keepsake to treasure. As part of this decision, the Tulipán Foundation has partnered with City Harvest to donate the equivalent cost of 1,000 eggs to help fight food insecurity in New York City—proudly honoring tradition while making a meaningful impact on our community.
Throughout the evening, guests will explore their creativity while learning about the history and significance of traditional egg decorating. Ildikó Fekete, an award-winning egg decorator and Tulipán grantee, will teach wax-resist egg dyeing. Ilona Szelesné Kása will guide participants through an eco-friendly technique using plant-based dyes made from ingredients like red cabbage and onion skins. Emőke Berkovics will showcase the drop pull technique, a traditional method for creating geometric and floral designs with beeswax.
Alongside egg decorating, guests will enjoy a curated selection of fine Hungarian wines from Palinkerie and indulge in the irresistible flavors of slow-roasted ham from Hirsch Sausage Market, cooked fresh on site. A live challah-making demonstration will provide a delightful look into another cherished tradition, giving guests the chance to braid their own mini loaves to take home. The atmosphere will be further enriched by the lively sounds of Fényes Banda, a New York-based string band performing traditional Hungarian folk music.
With a beautifully curated display of decorated eggs and the excitement of shared traditions, this event is sure to bring a warm welcome to spring. Registration is now open, and space is limited for this one-of-a-kind celebration. Click here to reserve your spot today.
