On Monday, October 28, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm ET, the Tulipán Foundation is proud to support a special event honoring the release of Julia Sonnevend’s newest book, Charm: How Magnetic Personalities Shape Global Politics (Princeton University Press, 2024). This hybrid event will be held at Ernst C. Stiefel Hall at The New School.
Julia Sonnevend, a Hungarian-born sociologist and communications scholar, explores the power of charm in shaping global politics. Her book delves into how political leaders use personal magnetism to connect with their audiences through mass and social media, creating a powerful sense of authenticity and influence. This thought-provoking discussion will provide insight into how charm shapes political leadership and engagement on a global scale.
The event will feature a lively conversation between Julia Sonnevend and Natalia Mehlman Petrzela, Associate Professor of History at The New School, followed by a Q&A session. A musical performance by students from The New School’s School of Jazz & Contemporary Music will round out the evening. Attendees will also enjoy a reception hosted by the Tulipán Foundation, which will include refreshments and Hungarian pastries, offering guests a taste of Hungary while celebrating the cultural roots of the author.
Join us as we celebrate Hungarian culture through this thought-provoking discussion and the opportunity to connect with the work of an esteemed Hungarian scholar. This event is presented by the College of Performing Arts and the Sociology Department at The New School for Social Research, with support from the Tulipán Foundation.
