Tara Khozein is a Brooklyn- and Budapest-based vocalist, performer, and teaching artist whose work blends music, theater, and community participation. Trained in physical theater at the Jacques Lecoq School in Paris, she creates collaborative performances inspired by folk traditions, improvisation, and the expressive possibilities of the human voice.
As the recipient of the 2026 Tulipán Art & Culture Award, Tara will create Hungarian-American New Music Alliance: Dacia Mixtape, a contemporary music project developed with violinist Alexander Bălănescu and percussionist Attila Gyárfás. Inspired by the shared musical traditions of the Carpathian-Danubian region, the project reimagines Hungarian, Romanian, Romani, Turkish, and other regional folk traditions through contemporary performance, exploring how music can reveal the cultural connections shaped by a shared landscape.
The work will be presented as a concert in New York in spring 2027, accompanied by a free community singing workshop where participants will learn Hungarian folksongs and their pronunciation. Through performance and participation, Tara invites audiences to experience folk traditions as living, evolving forms that continue to inspire contemporary artistic expression.
